El Ocote
April 11
Venture into the most biodiverse corners of the region with this half-day tour through El Ocote rainforest, one of the last remaining highland rainforests in central Chiapas. This experience is designed for birding enthusiasts seeking unique encounters with neotropical species. We’ll start the morning exploring dense rainforest trails in search of the royal flycatcher, a discreet yet spectacular bird known for its colorful crown, along with chestnut-mandibled toucans, trogons, woodpeckers, and other species native to tropical forests.
Later, we’ll head to Laguna Bélgica Park, an ideal setting to keep adding sightings to your checklist: here, among towering trees and tranquil waters, we may spot red- and green-eyed frogs, as well as a rich variety of understory birds, hummingbirds, and passerines. Departure from Tuxtla in the morning and return approximately at 2:00 p.m.
The tour includes: local transport, expert bird guide, traveler’s insurance and box lunch.
